Other organisations associated with the nature reserve
Huntingdonshire District Council
The local authority manages the site for people and wildlife. It owns part of the reserve and has a Management Agreement with Lafarge Redland Aggregates over the remainder.
Ouse Valley Way - from Source to Sea
The country’s longest long distance footpath, from Brackley in Northamptonshire to King’s Lynn in Norfolk, forms the eastern edge of the Paxton Pits complex.
Little Paxton village
The expanding village of Little Paxton lies on the southern edge of the nature reserve and many villagers are visitors, volunteers and Friends of Paxton Pits.
Royal Society for the Protection of Birds
The RSPB has supported the establishment and development of the Nature Reserve.

Cambridgeshire Wildlife Trust
Part of Paxton Pits Nature Reserve and some parts of the wider Pits complex are County Wildlife Sites, designated by The Wildlife Trust because of their scarce flora and importance for breeding waders and warblers. Local groups in St Neots and Huntingdon provide talks about wildlife conservation, opportunities to get involved in local nature conservation activities and learn about wildlife.
Cambridgeshire County Council biodiversity
Conservation work at Paxton Pits is contributing to the county’s Biodiversity Action Plan - check out our area’s priorities.
Natural England
Natural England is the government’s nature conservation adviser and responsible for ensuring that Sites of Special Scientific Interest are managed properly.
Bardon Aggregates
Bardon Aggregates operates the mineral extraction facility in the area around Diddington, with a processing plant on Haul Road. Their help is invaluable in undertaking management work in some of the newer areas.
Lafarge Redland Aggregates
Lafarge owns the southern part of the Nature Reserve and the Visitor Centre, which are leased to Huntingdonshire District Council, and the coating works near to the entrance of the Reserve.
Friends of Sudbury Meadow
Sudbury Meadow is in St Neots, a 0.8ha (2 acre) site, owned by Huntingdonshire District Council. The Friends of Sudbury Meadow has taken on its management, working closely with staff and volunteers involved with Paxton Pits.
