Paxton Bird & Wildlife Report
The
Birds and Wildlife of Paxton Pits 2007 is produced by The Friends and contains
details of all the wildlife seen here from September 2006
to December 2007,
including the first ever American golden plover and great white egret, and an
account of the first breeding otters. Paxton's first breeding Mediterranean gulls
nested, and we hosted the first breeding attempts involving yellow-legged gull
in Cambridgeshire.
Ruddy shelduck, five spoonbills, tree pipit and three
arctic skuas are among the other scarce birds featured, while shelduck, dunlin
and
black-tailed godwit all hit new record counts.
But
it’s not just about the rarities: it also contains counts of wintering
waterbirds, the status of breeding birds, first and last summer migrant
dates at Paxton, a report on a successful year's bird ringing and sections
on mammals, dragonflies and butterflies.
Priced at just £3, copies
will be available from the Visitors’ Centre or by post
from Trevor
Gunton (telephone 01480 473562).
Past copies of the Reports since 1998 can be downloaded from the archive.
